Subscriptions, subscriptions everywhere !

Wednesday, April 25, 2018 2:31:33 PM Europe/Paris

Surfing on the web the other day, I found out that it is even now possible to get a delivery of flowers on a periodical basis. Believe it or not, I was amazed. I already knew that it was possible to subscribe to various online store to get cosmetics, food, books, clothes, etc. And there I was, seeing that it was also possible to get flowers every three or four months. The subscription model gets to every business and if it does so, it means that there is a demand from clients. It means that this is the new way to buy. It means that it works.

Yes, it works. It works because we got tired of being only numbers and consumers. We realized that we wanted to be listened to, we wanted our opinions, needs and critiques to be taken into account. Consequently, it seems that businesses have heard it and reacted to it. The subscription economy was born.

The subscription economy is a glamorous term coined by the CEO of Zuora, a company that focuses on how to apply to subscription economy in a business model. The notion seems very serious, and what it means is this : the customers want personalization in their purchases, they want to feel connected with the companies, they desire a real-time contact and a true relationship on a long-term basis to be able to get answers to their problems and demands. That’s it and that’s true.

As a consumer myself, I obviously notice how picky I am now when I enter a store or surf on the web to find a specific product. I don’t want my visit to be purely money-oriented, I also want to feel considered and understood. Like many other customers, I don’t want to feel like my visit is not even noticed, I want to discuss my problem or the reason why I am there with someone who will be able to get me and advise. This is a general behavior, common to many, to which businesses are now used.

Agreeing to be part of the subscription economy means to accept that the company will know you, and probably better than you think. You all know that now and it’s for the better : they know what you need, and they give it to you directly where you want them to deliver it : at home, at work, etc.

What is in it for clients, though? Because, indeed, you have all understood by now that it is an advantage for companies to work through subscription models. Nowadays, building a loyal communities of customers with which the companies are close to is an essential part of any business. What about the clients, then ?

Subscribing to a webshop offer is easier for the client. You pay once, for a monthly/quaterly/...periodical delivery of a certain product. You don’t need to remember that you are about to be out of this product and thus need to buy it again. No, the business does that for you. You do not even have to thrive in stores, at the end of the day, after work, to find your product. It is going to be delivered directly where you decide. Furthermore, many webshops - and it is Raz*War’s case - suggests different models of subscriptions so that you will have the perfect option that suits you.

And then, let’s be honest : is there a better way to discover a new company and its products than to be able to connect with them and exchange opinions and remarks directly, in real time even though it is through your computer screen or your mobile screen ? Because, indeed, this is the promise and the must-do that every company has to respect : being present and available for the customers. You don’t talk to the cashier who is just a umpteenth intermediary between the company itself and you. No. You are able to talk directly with a person from the company, who is even probably right now in the offices, maybe in front of the CEO, while reading your message and responding to it. I mean, that is what happens when we answer to Raz*War’s customers, at least.

Raz*war was the first belgian company to offer shaving products based a subscription system and that would be available for a fair price and with the will to disrupt the pretentious big companies that have no shame in releasing new products rendering the previous ones obsolete and thus forcing their customers to turn to the new products.

By being present on the internet, Raz*War wants to be this vintage company offering products with a certain style but being fully modern - as it uses the Internet to be close to its clients. Its multi-channels presence helps it to answer to the preoccupations of the clients and to know more about what they need and what they want. And that is all that is asked from companies : adaptability, flexibility and real-time contact. Isn’t it ?

So, subscribing to a Raz*War model implies getting the insurance that you will enter the Raz*War community, this includes the people who work at Raz*War. It is time that bridges be broken and connection between customers and companies be reestablished. Don’t you think ? I thought so. So, what are you waiting ? Join now.

The shaving brush : do we need it ?

Friday, July 28, 2017 3:52:00 PM Europe/Paris

Many think that the razor is sufficient to benefit from a shaving experience. However, an efficient and pleasant shaving requires also other accessories.

The shaving brush represents in this sense a tool that is often forgotten but that remains quite important. Our CEO, Pierre de Nayer, talks about it:

We use the shaving brush for various reasons. First, it allows the generation of a foam sufficiently wet and this will help the softening of the facial hairs. The foam must not be too thick, otherwise it won’t lead to an optimal lubrication. Then, the brush will help you to place the foam on your skin. Thirdly, when you use it well, the brush helps the hairs to straighten up and this makes it easier to cut the hair. Finally, the brush leads to a better exfoliation of the skin, thus helping the skin to be soft, sane and smooth.

There are various kinds of brushes. The entry-level model is the basic shaving brush, often made from wild boar’s hair. These hair are thicker, more rough and do not retain water.

Then you can also find the shaving brushes made from synthetic fibers, like, for instance, nylon. You can also find brushes that made a mix between both types of hair quality : fiber and wild boar’s hairs.

Last but not least, some producer have invented brushes made from natural and vegetal fiber. The purpose here is to offer fiber that do not come from animals. These brushes are known to be “vegan”.

Well,we must also talk about the shaving brush that has been produced from badger’s hairs. This is the top of the top quality. Here, the hair retains the water. Among all animals and their hairs, this is the option that is the most efficient and that retains the water best.

All in all, we can distinguish three levels of quality : pure badger, best badger and silvertip badger. Some prefer to rank the shaving brushes in four categories: they make a distinction between super badger and silvertip badger. Some makers are very known in the world of shaving and razors, like the brand Plisson, and these guys also offer the Extra Silvertip Badger that goes far beyond the other categories as far as the quality is concerned. This is a luxury model that can be bought from 1000€.

Are we done yet ? No, not really. To make sure that the brush gets dry, we need a holder. You can find many different types of brush holders everywhere. At Raz*War, we offer two types of brushes : the Black Fiber and the Silvertip. And we have also thought about holders, and they are available in two colors. Check it out and let us know how was your shaving experience now that you are using a shaving brush !

No more cuts while shaving !

Friday, April 21, 2017 2:44:56 PM Europe/Paris

Shaving is a common habit, essential but delicate. The razor, no matter of which kind of razor, must be used properly in order not to damage the skin. This requires a certain flexibility of your wrist, especially when using security razor - this particular type of razor is very efficient but so sharp that we suggest that new users be very wise and careful. Shaving regurlarly also requires some knowledge and praticalities. If you apply these advices, your skin might be sufficiently prepared to be shaved by a sharp razor blade. the latter will then produce easily a smooth and soft shaving experience.

Before we even talk about the shaving tools, it is essential to prepare the one who will receive the shaving : the skin ! Indeed, it is the skin that will be subjected to all the hypothetical clumsiness and other incidents that might occur during the experience of shaving. Many factors come into play in order to take care of the skin : the moment during which the shaving will occur, the tools you use,the products, the way you shave, etc. These topics will be discussed today, so that you will be fully prepared to shave without cutting yourself.

The best time to shave remains in the morning. Quite evidently, it is the unique opportunity to soften the skin and to clear it from any impurities. The hot water produces the pores' opening and make the hair more flexible. This will make it easier for the blade to shave the hair. Well, now that your skin is clean, it is then interesting to apply a shaving oil, a cream or any other  pre-shaving product. This step will help to eradicate the excess of sebum or blackheads. Rinse that with tepid water to keep the pores open and move on to the next step.

Now we're talking about the most important moment : the shaving itself. Many think that it is not necessary to use soap, cream, oil or foam. However, it is actually a very good idea to take your time and use one of these products. Moreover, using a brush will help to apply these products uniformly on your skin. Professionals say that the brush helps the skin to relax and helps to cut the hair more precisely. If you decide to take the step and use one of these products, let it produce its effect for a while, 2 or 3 minutes should do it.

What about the one without whom it would not be possible to experience the shaving ? Yes, the razor ! In this article, we will not bother to talk about the type of razor, the blades or anything else. What is really important is to remind yourself to clean your razor and to change your blades, and of course, to shave following the sense of hair's growth. If you think that shaving in the opposite sense helps, I could agree but it will also produce ingrowing hair, red blotches or even spots.

Do not forget to rinse your razor regularly while shaving. And now that every zone is cleaned and smooth, soft, you must rinse your face and make the remainders of foam or cream on your cheeks. Cold water would be preferable for this stage. Indeed, hot water helped to open the pores, now it is time to close them up. Use a towel to dry your skin but be gently while drying your skin with it. Your skin is now soft and smooth, right ? It does not mean it is healed and perfect, though. You want an advice ? Use a balm or a cream to soften one last time your cheeks, this is a perfect way to put an end to your shaving. Now your skin is hydrated, protected, and soft. We will not advise you to use perfumed aftershave, these will not help to hydrate your skin, even though - we admit it - the scent is rather agreable.

Well, we could say it in thousand words, use a magic formula, or wait for a miracle but there's none of that. On the other hand, as we have seen it, some habits will help you to avoid spots, cuts and other unpleasant small injuries that might be caused by the blades !

Stephan, CEO at Raz*War

RazWar El Cid Double Edged Razor

Founder’s words about the razor El Cid :

"What a beautiful object! Like me, you'll ensure that it remains exposed on your shelf. On my side, I use with this razor for weekends shaving only. When things are cooling down, you can then enjoy the shaving experience. It took a while to get those razors in our portfolio, but now we're real proud. "

The Choice is Yours

Friday, March 13, 2015 6:06:43 PM Europe/Paris

The Choice is Yours

The blades choice is yours

The El Che blades (3 blades) is a fair price option. This razor allows a good control around your face, and you can even use it to shave the whole head.

The El Fidel blades (5 blades) is the premium option for a comfortable shave. Its control gives a great post-shaving sensation and allows a good shaving pace. The pivotal head makes it incredibly easy with only one stroke.

Ban canned shaving foams and gels from your bathroom

Monday, February 24, 2014 11:59:40 AM Europe/Paris

As you know, Raz*War proposes you to “Shave differently”. And among the numerous Raz*War fights - David against Goliath - there is the fight against Canned Gels & Foams…

Why this? Are canned gels & foams, which appeared in the post war years, a sign of the rise of the modern man?  Is it a sign of civilizations progressing? Well, they may have been symbols of manhood in the past, but…

Try the RazWar soap

Some “sharpologists” (i.e. specializing in everything that cuts whiskers properly) and/or wet shaving enthusiast (such as “Rajagra” on this blog for example: wonder why these products have had such a big success.

Here is the truth. The key ingredient – water – is lacking when using a canned foam or gel. The ingredients contained in canned foams and gels “absorb” the water on your face which is the opposite shaving foam should do. So, there is a problem somewhere: and guess what, even BigRazCo agrees with this statement (not publically of course).

Canned gels and foams should be banned from your bathroom.

I am saying it regularly. Let me now summarize for you why you should disregard these products:

  • * They are polluting: cans are made of metal (a mixture of aluminum and steel). The button of the can is made of plastic. Once thrown away, they are recyclable but practically, they are not recycled and they are difficult to destroy…
  • * They contribute to greenhouse effect: propellants made of CFC (Chlorofluorocarbon) are now forbidden, since it has been proven that they destroy the ozone layer. Propellants of canned foams & gels are very often made of hydrocarbons, most likely butane and propane. Hydrocarbons are typical gases that contribute to the greenhouse effect.
  • * They are expensive: compared to, even, an expensive soap, canned gels and foams are very expensive. You can make up to 150 shaves with a standard soap. Just imagine doing the same with a canned foam or gel…
  • * Foam bubbles are made of petroleum derivatives:  bubbles obtained while creating your own lather (using soap or shaving cream and a brush) are made…of air. Just think about what the bubbles from your canned foam and/or gels are made of….butane and propane of course.
  • * They contain a lot of other derivatives: canned foams and gels contain a lot of other chemical derivatives, with various functions (adsorbent, solvent, aspect, conservation, stability…) although these products have been heavily tested (to a certain extent…), it is just not recommended to put these products on your skin….
  • * They lack water: the most important ingredient in “wet shaving” is… water of course. In a lather produced by yourself (ie. soap or cream), you have a lot of water between the air bubbles. In contrary, due to its chemical function, a standard soap you use to clean your hands with for example desiccates the hair (…and the skin) just like what canned gels and foams do.

All shaving experts and gurus will agree with me: canned foams and gels are now old-fashioned. They represent the golden sixties. Now, it is time to go back to even older products: the shaving creams & soaps using with a shaving brush. This is the “new” modern way to shave: eco-friendly, while taking care of your skin and body.  And, yes, let me end with this: shaving with a brush and soap is sexy.  Is that going too far? I believe not. I will tell you why in my next blog post.

If you haven't seen our Shaving Tips in video format you should check them out on our YouTube channel or on our website. Tell us what you think :-)

Keep on S(h)aving!
